Sister Mary Philomena of St. Joseph’s Farm has a starring role here at the Harvard Farmers’ Market. She is best known for her crisp cucumbers, plump tomatoes, flavorful grapes, kale, squash and more which she brings to the Market each week.

St. Joseph’s Farm sits idyllically in Still River, a section of Harvard which is lined with antique homes and overlooks the Nashua River valley and Wachusett Mountain. Last year, vineyard specialists and local farmers helped to revive and resurrect the old vineyard and orchard. Their hard work and dedication paid off at harvest time: over 40 people came to help pick, grapes were pressed for 8 hours solid, and her grapes yielded 600 quarts of the best grape juice around!

This year, Sister’s latest endeavors included tying 100 tomato plants to her trellis. She plans on bringing her Concord, Deleware, Niagara and French Champagne grapes to the Market this week. Get your canning jars ready, and do stop by to say hello to Sister Mary Philomena and her truly blessed produce.
