River Rock Farms

Cherished at the Market for their grass-fed, pasture-raised aged beef, the owners and workers of River Rock Farm use no growth hormones or artificial additives, but rather great love and care when it comes to their cows. They are dedicated not only to the health and well-being of their cattle, their land and their customers, but also to keeping one man’s dream alive.
River Rock Farm was a dream of young enterpreneur Jon Konove. Farmed for over 100 years in Brimfield, MA, River Rock as we know it today began in 1993 when the Konoves, along with their three children, purchased the land.
Their son Jon became interested in farming after high school, when his studies led him to a farm in Arkansas and participation in the Heifer Project. Soon thereafter, his passion for earning a living from the land took seed.
After the purchase of several steers, Jon’s dream continued to grow as more cattle were purchased and the beef business began in earnest. Jon continued to educate himself in so many aspects of farming, including dairy education, biology, veterinary work, and so much more.
On November 26, 2006, tragedy struck. Jon was killed in a truck rollover as he was returning from a customer’s restaurant. Wishing to honor Jon’s energy and passion, his family and friends continue to farm and raise beef to bring to people everywhere. His great friend Tom, his Dad, and others near and dear come to the Market to tell Jon’s story and insure his dream lives on.
Next time you are at the Market, stop by and say hello. You might miss the sirloin tips – they are usually gone by 10a.m. – but guaranteed you’ll meet some exceptional people who exemplify energy, passion, faith and hope – just as Jon Konove once did.
